What’s the Scoop
(The following was taken from our first What’s the Scoop? newsletter sent out October 4th)
Ice Cream and Candy Coming Soon!
(Well, soon-ish!)
Welcome to the first edition of What’s the Scoop?! We are thrilled you decided to join our newsletter list. If your inbox looks anything like mine and the thought of yet another email newsletter sort of makes you cringe, I get it, so I promise to keep (most) of them short and sweet.
About Us….
We are the Ripps.
Our family of four (made up of myself Katy, Dale, Miles and Madeline) has lived in Cross Plains most of all of our lives, with a short break to beautiful Bayfield, Wisconsin during our newlywed years.
Both Dale and I grew up just minutes from Cross Plains; Dale near Ashton and myself in the West Middleton area. We’ve since owned two houses in the village of Cross Plains and now live just north a few minutes in the town of Berry. Miles attends Glacier Creek Middle School as a 7th grader and Madeline as a 4th grader at Park Elementary. We share our farmette with 3 Austrailian Shepherds, Greta, Buck and Honey, a bearded dragon named Spike and way too many farm kitties.
While we have always loved Cross Plains, in recent years we have become far more invested in the community by opening Nineteen09 Wine Bar in 2019 and purchasing Crossroads Coffeehouse from Mary Devitt in January 2021. In July, we had the opportunity to acquire Main Street Square at 2020 Main Street, now known as Twenty Twenty Main, which brings us here.
We are so excited to bring The Creekside Scoop to Cross Plains. You may have already read the story behind the idea but as they say, the devil is in the details so here goes nothin’…
Details So Far…
We’ve gotten the WHO out of the way, how about the WHAT, WHERE, WHEN and HOW?
What?
The Creekside Scoop will serve ice cream and ice cream treats, shakes and floats, old-fashioned candy and confections, beer, root beer and cold brew on tap and provide a space for kids’ birthday parties, music and events.
Below are initial thoughts so please don’t hold us to them:
Ice Cream: Serving Sassy Cow Creamery Ice Cream. We’re actively looking for a few frozen yogurt options.
Floats, Malts and Milkshakes: Root beer and cold brew on tap which will go nicely over vanilla ice cream for a magical float.
Candy: Think an old-fashioned candy shop with a twist! We’ll have bins of candy, chocolate, confections and toys for kids for sale by weight. We haven’t decided what kinds exactly but there will be a little something for everyone!
Hot Dog and a Beer: overlooking the creek, on a patio, in the summer. Enough said.
Birthday Parties: What parent doesn’t want a place to hold a birthday party where they don’t have to lift a finger and then send all the kids home jacked up on cake, ice cream and sugar? Well, that’s what we have in mind. Look for all-inclusive, late-morning, weekend party booking availability coming soon.
Where?
The Scoop will be located in the SW corner of Twenty Twenty Main. For those of you directionally challenged that’s “on the creek side”. See what we did there?
If you’ve driven through town over the past few days you may have noticed big holes being cut in on the west side of the building and concrete trucks moving in and out.
The holes are for two large windows and a very large sliding electric entry door. While you’ll still be able to enter through the lobby by the coffeeshop, the main entrance will be on the west/creek side. The concrete is for a patio that will, in the future, have a pergola over it to provide shade and connect to a deck that will (hopefully) wrap around to the creek side for a fantastic view of sunsets over Black Earth Creek.
The empty lot to the west has been purchased locally (not by us) and will remain green space. Much, much more to come on that soon!
When?
Opening date is slated for Valentine’s Day 2022 with limited hours through late winter/early spring. A grand opening will take place on a beautiful, sunny day Summer 2022.
How?
That, my friends, is the $64,000 question. But, I have faith that my talented husband and his very talented circle of tradesmen friends will deliver…like they always do…to have us open by February 14th.
Of course a pretty (and it will be pretty), completed space is necessary, but without an amazing staff we wouldn’t have anything to fill it with. We will be (soon, but not yet) on the look out for responsible, loyal, dependable, community-driven, hard-working, Cross Plains-lovin’ people who want to be a part of something like this. Please forward this email on to anyone you know that might be interested or know someone that is. Highschool students will be welcome to apply.
